Conversations with Jessie

Painting allows me to express my experiences, memories and hopes, to create whims and what ifs, always alive to the prospect that I can find meaning in the spaces and significant objects that surround me- nature, toys and other glimpses of fatherhood.I like to celebrate the everyday and the beauty in the humdrum. I see the divine in a child’s raincoat reflected in a puddle as others might see in a highland glen.

Also working imaginatively with the past the paintings go through changes and imaginations, creating dramatic dualities of dark and light, familiar and strange. This often results in contrasts of sadness and beauty in the mood and of course, many of my dark, little anxious dramas might also allude to worldlier goings on.
